The unfinished Google profile
A Google profile can answer a customer's basic questions before they visit a website. Across the profiles we checked, some of the most useful details were often missing.
A staggering 99.5% of profiles were missing a business description.
The description was the biggest gap, but not the only one. More than four in five profiles had no booking link, and 43% did not link to a website.
Customers should not need to hunt for the basics
A complete profile helps a customer understand what the business does, when it is open, where to learn more, and whether they can book immediately. Missing fields turn simple decisions into extra searches.
Completion alone does not guarantee visibility or more calls. It does give customers more useful information at the point where they are deciding what to do next.
How we got these numbers
We analyzed matched, operational Google profiles associated with businesses categorized as auto repair. Each Google profile was counted once.
Of 10,854 profiles, 10,803 lacked a description, 8,910 lacked a booking link, 4,668 lacked a website link, 1,343 lacked opening hours, and 240 lacked a photo.
An honest limitation: these are the businesses we chose to analyze, not a random sample of the industry. We measured whether each field was present, not whether its content was accurate, current, or useful.
What to do about it
- Write a clear description. Explain the services, location, and reason to choose you.
- Add your website. Give customers a direct route to more information.
- Keep opening hours current. Update holidays and temporary changes as they happen.
- Add booking if available. Let ready customers take the next step immediately.
- Use a representative photo. Show the real business, team, or workshop.
